Kulgam, April 9:
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday caught a Panchayat Secretary red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, officials said.
According to official sources, the accused had allegedly demanded money from a complainant in exchange for processing official work related to local administrative matters. Following the complaint, the ACB initiated a verification process which confirmed the allegations.
Subsequently, a trap team was formed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to catch the accused in the act. During the operation, the official was apprehended while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant, officials added.
After the arrest, the accused was taken into custody, and further legal procedures were initiated as per the law. Authorities have also registered a case and started a detailed investigation into the matter.
Officials stated that such actions are part of ongoing efforts to curb corruption in public offices and ensure transparency in administrative functioning. The ACB has urged citizens to report any instances of corruption or bribery.
